Help: Viewing Placemarks in Google Maps

Google Maps can be used without additional software on your computer.

  • Read the Google Maps help.

  • Experiment with the zoom tools.

  • Placemarks contain sights of interest and other information. Click on placemarks to show information about them. Some will have links to external websites.  Note that the linked websites will overwrite the Google Maps page, use your browser 'Back' link to return to the Google Maps page.

  • When browsing the visitor itineraries, the desert stops contain more information on likely activiities.

  • Use the map controls to move around the display.

  • Toggle between Map, Satellite and Hybrid buttons.

  • Note that the Search nearby link is a Google Maps feature. Using this feature opens a new window in the Google Maps window, press Back in the browser window to return to the application. The 'search nearby' feature may not be useful for many desert placemarks.
