Vacation Research Projects

The Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre has offered four Vacation Research Projects to assist students to engage in and gain experience in an area of their interest in desert research. Although the Desert Knowledge CRC is not currently offering new Vacation Research Projects, if successful in its rebid for a Desert Cooperative Research Centre, a range of new Vacation Research Projects will become available. Please check this website regularly for updates and new Vacation Research Project application forms.

Desert Knowledge CRC Vacation Research Projects offer a unique opportunity for students to obtain experience in desert-related research. The aim of the Desert Knowledge CRC Vacation Research Projects is to provide students with an opportunity to engage in and gain experience in an area of interest and to evaluate for themselves, and demonstrate to others, their potential for research work.

The projects offer students the experience of working with well-established researchers in high quality desert research facilities.

Successful candidates will be expected to participate in an ongoing research project within an experienced research team and will be required to submit a written report of their research at the end of the project.

Our aim is to provide promising students studying at partner institutions with a positive experience of doing desert research prior to their decision on whether to undertake a postgraduate research towards a higher degree. The Vacation Research Projects provide students with the experience of working with well-established researchers, high quality research facilities and exposure to undertaking research which might not be available elsewhere.

What do Desert Knowledge CRC Vacation Research Projects offer?

  • The opportunity to undertake a research project over a specified period of time (between four and twelve weeks). The period for which the Desert Knowledge CRC Vacation Research Projects are awarded will be specified in the letter of offer.

  • A tax free stipend. In some cases, accommodation, travel and/or living allowances may also be provided.
