The System in Action

Integrating desert experiences and commercial opportunities

This application tours around the Red Centre Way in Central Australia to demonstrate a system in action. Connections are made between the desires of people who would like to explore these desert landscapes and the difficulties and opportunities facing desert communities in realising meaningful benefits from this form of tourism.  It also discusses the emerging role of themed driving routes as attractions in their own right.

A particular focus of this tour is the difficulties faced by the supply-side of tourism in desert areas of Australia.  We discuss the homogenous nature of product offerings and the ability of organisations and businesses servicing the 4WD tourism sector to innovate as they endeavour to attract economic and other benefits from interactions with 4WD travellers.
